Nepal Night

Description
- Nepal night is a cultural night that reflects the musical, cultural and
social aspects of Nepal and is targeted for all of the students and faculties at the OU. Even though this was our first
attempt in organizing such a big event, the outcome was
much more than what we expected. There were around 200
spectators. The performers were not only from OU, but they also from
Dallas County Community College (DCCCD), the University of Texas at
Arlington (UTA), Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) and University
of Central Oklahoma (UCO).

Description
- Inspired by the success of our first Nepal Night, members of NSA
organized a second Nepal Night on Spring of 2007. With the experiences
of the previous one, this one became more organized and was much more
appreciated among the audiences. Again, we got lot of assistance from
NSA of other institutions, Dallas County Community College (DCCCD), the
University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), Oklahoma City Community College
(OCCC), University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), Norman High School, and
Oklahoma State University. We had one special dance in which only one
of the performers was from Nepal, the others were from America,
Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Other than dance and music,
we featured slide shows about Nepal that gave the viewers an idea about
Nepal.
Movie Night: A Fun Event
Numafung

Description - The first Movie shown was "Numafung", a movie directed by Nabin Subba and set wtihin Limbu ( one of Nepal's many ethnic groups) culture and community.
Everest

Description
- The second movie shown was "Everest" by director David Brea Shears and Stephen Judson.
Food Festival
Time - 26 March, 2008
Venue - OU Union Food Court
Description - The food
Festival was a fundraising event which helped introduce Nepali food to
OU and to the Norman Community. The price for a plate of food was about
$5 and we had unexpected success. Not only that, we were also able to
help them taste our culture.
Participation
Eve of Nations
Time - Spring of 2006
Venue - Lloyd Noble Center
Description
- Eve of Nations is a major international event organized annually by the
International Advisory Committee (IAC) at the University Oklahoma. This
event provides all the registered international student organizations a
platform to show their culture and traditions. This event not only
features the dances and musical performances from different countries,
but also an international fashion show and a dinner consisting of
delicious food from different countries. This was our first year of participating in this event.

Description
- This was now our Second year of participating in the
competition. And this year we had girls from Nepali Student Association
dance on the song Darpan Chaya.

Description
- This was our third year participating in the Eve of
Nations and this year our performers were from OU and Norman High
School. The song chosen this year was Vhimeshore ko Mela.
International Dance Competition

Description
- Similar
to the Eve of Nations, many dances from different countries including
Native American Dance was performed. This event was a way to celebrate
the beauty and diversity
of cultures around the world with a twist of competition.
Big Event
Time - Annually
Venue - OU
Description
- This is an annual event in which OU students volunteer for a
day to thank the Norman Community. Not only students but also OU
faculty and staff also took part in order to help the community
organizations. Members of NSA, whenever possible, have been
participating in this tratditional event to pay back to the community
of Norman.
International Bazaar
Time - Annually in the fall
Venue - OU
Description
- An international bazaar is held each year in the fall semester to
exhibit small items from different countries. All the registered
international student organizations get to set up a stall to exhibit
and sell small articles typical of their countries.
Homecoming Parade
Time - Annually in the fall
Venue - OU
Description
- Homecoming is an annual tradition of the United States. Students come
together, usually in late September or October, to welcome back alumni.
The event date always falls on Football home game day. There is a big
parade which includes the school's marching band and different school
organizations floats. Also, the Homecoming King and Queen are coronated
the same day. International students usually participate in the
Homecoming by carrying the flags of different countries which are
represented at OU. NSA members always join the whole international
community and represent Nepal.
